I cannot stress enough how important mastering freezer cooking is in reaching your health goals. If you are a mom, you probably want to eat real food and be healthy and feel great for yourself and so you can be the best mom you can be for you kids. If that’s the case, you must, must, must learn to utilize your freezer.
Yes, eating everything fresh on the day it’s made is the best case scenario. In a magical world, you can spend all your time growing your own food, visiting local farms and farmers markets, and then cooking ’til your heart’s content. But I have not figured out how to live in that magical world all the time. The world I mostly live in, is where I bust my butt managing a household, taking care of a child with special needs and working full time. But I still manage to eat healthy and take care of my own needs as far as health, healing, personal growth and self care is concerned. The main reason that is possible, is because of bulk/freezer cooking.
I am certainly not perfect and there will always be room for improvement and new things to learn, but I can for sure tell you this: It’s been 14 years of trying to figure out what healthy means and how to do it in an easy and efficient way so I don’t get overwhelmed and give up. I work hard not to seek out crap food for comfort or to save time. Utilizing my freezer for bulk cooking is the number one most important skill I have learned over these years. Bulk freezer cooking has singlehandledly catapulted my health and ability to eat healthy nearly all of the time into what it is today.
My first introduction to freezer cooking was through a good friend and we utilized Once a Month Meals‘ monthly menus. After being introduced to freezer cooking, I started using my own style and really relied heavily on my slow cooker freezer recipes. And I still do. To this day, my slow cooker freezer recipes continue to be the foundation of what fills my freezer and what my family eats.
But I still continue to use Once a Month Meals. I have the Pro Yearly Plan and I can only use the recipes that match my health and allergy needs. It is an amazing, amazing resource. The founder, Tricia, is a really good friend of mine and she amazes me with her talent and ability to help moms through the service she provides.
I’ll say it again, if you are serious about getting healthy and eating real food, you have got to learn freezer cooking methods. I have plenty of free recipes and my cookbooks are great option too, but I highly suggest you also give Once a Month Meals a try. If you are not ready to commit to the yearly plan (the best option, I think, because you get a month free that way and the most flexibility to do what you want) you can try it for a month, and she also still posts a ton of menus for free each month as well.
If not for Once a Month Meals I would not be where I am today as far as my health and cooking skills go. I know you will find it as helpful I as did and it will be a great resource for you to accomplish your goals of getting healthy, saving time and even saving money.
Use this time before school starts back to get your freezer full and ready to go. Take this opportunity and invest in yourself and learn how to feed your family better, healthier meals that don’t make you become a slave to the kitchen. Becoming the mom and person you want to be involves many factors (like doing personal growth and healing) but at the end of the day that healing is what enables you to take action. Action is what will get you from point A to point B.
So technically you could just skip all the healing work and just take action!
