How To Ground Yourself + Protect Your Energy


Do you ever feel like you are all over the place? Are you a little forgetful and flaky? Can you literally not find your footing?  This is what can happen if you are not grounded.

We can describe people as level-headed and grounded, but what does that actually mean?

Staying grounded is a way to remain connected to the energy of the earth.  I have been practicing staying grounding since I first learned about the practice at 18. And like any practice, it’s a practice, not a one time fix.  You gotta constanly come back to it.  Luckily, it only takes a few minutes to get yourself grounded.

When I talk about grounding, I mean it in an energetic way but there is also a biomedical component. Positive electrons in the form of free radicals can build up in our bodies. These charges can be balanced out through direct contact with the ground. So biologically, we are meant to be outdoors and barefoot a lot to counteract and clear out this buildup of free radicals. Since most of us don’t live out in the woods, there are other ways to get that connection and balance out. Just walking outside barefoot is one way. You can get a grounding mat to sit or sleep on. Or you could wear shoes like Five Fingers or something a little more stylish like Juil sandals.

Grounding yourself energetically is important for your mental, emotional and physical health. Staying grounded keeps inflammation down, improves sleep and energy, and in general helps your body better rest, restore, heal and get back to homeostasis.

A lot of spiritual and sensitive people like myself have a hard time staying grounded because they have a tendency to want to be up in the heavens where it feels safer and more comfortable vibrationally. 

But in this earthly life, staying grounded is important. I mentioned in the video that staying grounded was easier for me in Tallahassee. Maybe it was the energy of the deeply rooted live oaks, but for whatever reason, my energetic and personality make up thrived in that area. I felt safe and secure. Since moving to South Florida where we are very close to the powerful ocean, I literally feel like I am going to be washed away! On one hand, this feeling is great – the powerful ocean makes it easier to heal, unclog and unstick deeply-held and firmly-rooted negative beliefs and patterns that can hold you back. I have done massive amounts of personal growth and healing in this last year, but being so close to the ocean as also made me feel unstable. This combination has forced me to practice and really pay attention to staying grounded.

I didn’t mention this in the video, but one of my other favorite tools I use to connect with the earth is crystals.  Hematite is the best stone for this. I keep a couple in my purse and in my pocket.     I love that you did a video on grounding yourself. I live in Florida as well and I always have a difficult time grounding myself. I am a very anxious person and I often forget to stop and ground myself before I fly of the handle lol. Thank you for reminding me!
