Ever since I started taking ceramic wheel throwing class this past year, my creative side has awakened. When Penelope was a baby, my primary outlet was sewing, but I have always loved painting and making art. I love using art as therapy; I find it so therapeutic. Penelope is such a little artist, too. Unlike her gross motor delays, her fine motor skills are above average and she takes a lot of pride in making art – she feels good about being good at something, and it’s calming to her. She knows she can sit down at her art table if she needs to chill out.
She is so cute right now. This age, almost 4 and half, is really fun. She loves making books. She is very aware that I sell books as part of how I earn a living, so she has been making her own books for the last couple of months. In fact, yesterday she said she wanted to write a book with me one day, but she said that she wants me to write it and she will draw the pictures. I told her that was called being an illustrator and her face just lit up when her little brain processed that drawing pictures for books was an actual career she could do one day. My heart was so full with joy in that moment and so proud of her!
Anyhoo, long story short, I decided to do some quick water color Easter cards this year with Penelope as our after school craft time activity. I got a pack of plain, white note cards and broke out our trusty watercolor set.
I picked out some pastel Eastery colors and we went to town filling up the space. Once they were dry, I used a Happy Easter stamp in the middle.
We did an Easter egg stamp on the inside and Penelope colored it in with markers. I think they turned out really cute! What do you think?
This one is one that Penelope did all by herself. I actually like hers more since she left some white space still showing.
The whole project did not take us very long at all, and I am sure our family and friends will love getting these in the mail this Easter season!
