Link Love 7.19.13

Have y’all seen this YouTube video that has gone viral? It’s a spoken word poetry by Holly McNish about having to breastfeed her sweet baby in a public restroom. It is very powerful, you gotta watch it!

I love using zucchini instead of pasta in pasta dishes.  This zucchini lasagna looks amazing!

My ten year anniversary is coming up with my husband.  I didn’t get to pick out my engagement or wedding rings, because we used family rings-my engagement ring was his Abuelita’s (that’s Granny en espanol) and my wedding ring was my paternal grandmother’s ring.  I love them, they are sweet and vintage, but sometimes I wish I would have been able to get a big ‘ole honking rock.  If I were to pick out a ring, I would definitely get something from this jewelry company.  All their jewelry is handcrafted in Philadelphia with reclaimed precious metals, ethically sourced stones, and low-impact, environmentally conscious practices.

Ooh, this is a cool new gardening product, perfect for newbies!

The last several weekends I have been juicing fresh squeezed orange juice for my family.  I never give Penelope store bought juice (even with organic juice, if it’s pasteurized, it’s just organic sugar water so what’s the point?), but on occasion, I will give her fresh apple juice or orange juice as a treat-it’s still sugar, but she is at least getting vitamins and nutrients.  I came across this fermented orange juice recipe and I want to try it soon.  I love fermented drinks, kombucha (store bought, because I can not make kombucha at home to save my life) and lemonade.

These stats always blow my mind.  1 in 3 women will experience physical or sexual violence by an intimate partner at some point in her life.

This stat is actually pretty mind blowing too:  In 2012, there were over 6,000 reports of unintended exposures to highly-concentrated packets of laundry detergent by children 5 and younger?!  You know those little pouches of concentrated laundry detergent?  If left in kids reach, they grab them and think they are candy or a toy.   Be smart and keep them out of reach, or better yet, don’t even use them.   Try making your own homemade detergent.

Here’s a few recent Instagram shots, you can follow me over there if you like!

We live right by the Juno Pier. I’ve been taking heavenly beach walks by myself at least once a week in the morning, I am so grateful for them.  I have been so close to the edge during this whole transition, but the ocean helps me from unraveling completely.

We had our first official visitors last weekend,  Penelope was over the moon to have her friends come visit.

  1. I liked up today — just a post giving props to my husband who works very hard as a fire fighter, and do I want my sons to follow in daddy’s footsteps? I love your Link Love, by the way. Good stuff. Thank you :)

  2. Can I just say that I LOVED that youtube video! Empowering and truthful. I linked my recent post about my journey toward a VBAC. I’m pregnant with number 2 and want more than anything to have a normal, natural delivery which I didn’t get with my son.

    • I LOVED it too! I wish I could meet her or see her art in person. Ah. mazing. Congratulations on your pregnancy!! And let me know if I can do anything help with your VBAC.
