Can A Scarf Keep You Healthy? And Video!

Here in North Florida it’s been an unusually warm winter. I have only had to pull out a coat twice.  But I try to always wear a scarf. Not just because they are cute, but because it is an easy way to protect yourself from a cold or flu virus. In Chinese medicine the nape of the neck is called the ‘wind gate.’  This is the area in the back of the neck where external pathogens can enter the body.  When you literally feel a chill go down your spine and through you body, that’s a “wind” invasion. But back up – let me tell you a little bit about acupuncture.  It’s based on the premise the bodily functions are regulated by an energy called qi which flows through the body. Disruptions of this flow are believed to be responsible for disease.   Acupuncture aims to correct imbalances in the flow of qi by stimulation of anatomical locations on or under the skin, called acupuncture points.

If you  incubate and keep the “wind gate” acupuncture point warm you will not get sick as often!

So wear a scarf even when it starts to warm up. I know when warmer spring weather starts coming you want to start ditching layers. Try keeping your scarf but ditching the sweater instead – that way the sun has access to your skin from some vitamin D too, which is just as important if not more so than vitamin C to keep your immune system working properly.
