How To Get Your Husband to Dress Like Don Draper

My husband is a self-proclaimed beach bum.  He hates to wear button up shirts and ties.  He will wear a collared polo to work but refuses to tuck it in.  He used to wear skate shoes to work until we found some nice leather Patagonia sneakers that are much more stylish and professional, but laid back enough that he likes them.

Dressing like a slacker has done nothing for his career.  He is an extremely talented engineer but he is the youngest guy at his firm and has to deal with ageism as it is, so you think he would dress more professionally and not do anything to further the misconception that he is young and doesn’t know what he is talking about.

BUT…I see the light at the end of the tunnel.  I think he is starting to realize that how he dresses is important.

I also think he is starting to take note how I have really stepped up my game this year and am taking more pride in how I look and “get dressed” on a continual basis.  Even if I am wearing a shirt and shorts, I make an effort to put a cute outfit together, with fun jewelry, a little makeup etc.  That is an effort I mostly make for myself, but him as well, and I think he is starting to realize that it is a two-way street.

So if your hubs is in need of a little wardrobe sprucing, head on over to Target.  You already shop there for yourself, but next time you are there check out the men’s section!

  1. I hear ya! My hubby is a self-proclaimed pool boy/lifeguard. He dresses in lifeguard T’s and the Baggies for men @ Patagonia everyday. So we actually started hitting up their annual 60% off sale 5 yrs ago. We buy a little of what’s on clearance every year and now he has a decent work/play wardrobe! Best quality ever…I still have the winter jacket I bought in 1993!!! Looks like new.

BTW – who is Don? I am so out of it!
