I started using Skype as soon as my daughter was born. Although thankfully we have an amazing group of close friends here, we have no immediate family in our town, so Skype is a great way to let the Grandparents see Penelope.
Sometimes it’s hard to get Penelope to stay in the screen, but our best experiences with Skype have been not trying to have a conversation but just setting the computer up so that Penelope can just play and be herself and let the Grandparents see her in action.
This past Christmas, Skype came in very handy as both sets of Grandparents got to watch Penelope open her presents. And just this week we got to show her excitement of making homemade ice cream for the first time.
And pretty much all my husband’s extended family lives in Argentina. So if it weren’t for Skype we would never get to see them!
If you haven’t checked out Skype or Skype’s new Group Video Chat, I highly recommend it!
It’s time to say more and stay human. It’s time for Skype.

I feel the exact same way about everything you mentioned
My husband was born/raised in Ireland so most of his family is over there and Skype is the only way we visit. And we do the same thing. Just put the computer up and let the kids run around and be themselves.
Oh I want to go to Ireland so bad! Have you taken your family yet? I have heard that you have to do so much driving while you are there to see everything, so I am thinking it’s not the best place to visit with small children.
No, we haven’t taken the kids yet. We would go more when I worked for United and it was virtually a 100% free trip. If we take the kids, we’d be lucky b/c we have relatives to stay with in homes that are kid friendly with cousins. But yes, there would be a lot of driving around and stays at different b&b’s to take advantage of what the Island has to offer. It’s like no where else though!
He is from Northern Ireland so I love the north, especially the Giant’s Causeway which is an area of approximately 40,000 interlocking basalt columns, the result of an ancient volcanic eruption.
Ireland will def “bring you back”. My husband says the milk here isn’t really milk (as you know!) b/c he grew up on a farm drinking fresh milk from cows he milked. I bet you’d love it!
That sounds amazing! I want to go so bad!!
We skype all the time too. The computer and webcam are hooked up to the TV. Grandparents Are big screen and they can see all the happenings in the living room. Everyone would feel so far away without Skype. Great to hear about the group chat! I think we tried something like that during the holidays.
That is cool they have it hooked up to the TV!
