Link Love 4.13.2012 (Friday the 13th!)

Happy Friday the 13th!!   I luvvvv Friday the 13th!  I was born on one, and turned 13 on one!

It’s been a fun week, Penelope eating a penny and all.  Or possibly eating one away.  Either I missed it on the way out or she never actually swallowed it and somehow spit it out and I didn’t see, but the x-ray was all clear.  My poor girl, has had so many x-rays, I hate it!

And I switched to only making purchases with cash.  It has led to some funny experiences.  Did you know that Starbucks will not take bills larger than a $20?

Here are some fun weekend reading material for ya:

Ooo, weee this article got a lot of attention.

Um, yes please.  I need this so bad.  My inbox is out. of. control.

I have been meaning to do this for ages.  I sweat a lot and the natural deodorant’s don’t really cut it for me.

Today is the LAST day to enter to win a Berkey Water Filter.  Hop to it!

Miss P was featured on two blogs recently, makes me so happy!  Baby Blackbird featured her in their weekly Mini Street Style post and Jacinda from Prudent Baby loved my Snappy Toddler top I made in her new fabric line, so much that she did a post about it!

I failed miserably at my macaroni and cheese attempt last weekend.  I tried to cut some corners and paid the price.  I should have just sucked it up and followed Pioneer Woman’s recipe.  This slow cooker version looked pretty good, but I wasn’t sure what to do instead of the condensed milk.  Regardless, it’s on Mac n’ Cheese.  I will not be defeated.  There has got to be an easy and healthy way to do it.

I love social media.  What is going on right now is similar to what happened in the 60’s when TV really took off.  I am so glad to be a part of it.  But I am not so sure about this, why are Google and Facebook trying to take over the world!?

This caught my eye.  Eco-friendly breast pump.  Has anyone used it?

Making this healthy cookie recipe this weekend.  Yes, I said healthy and cookie in the same sentence.  Bought my ingredients yesterday.  It’s going to be healthy and expensive.  Good Lord, coconut flour is pricey!  Or maybe now that I am on the envelope system I am paying more attention.

This lovely album from The Nields just came out.  I was lucky enough to be sent a cd and I was pleasantly surprised.  I really like it!

And oh my gosh, I almost forgot…I am going to the Mom 2.0 Summit in Miami on May 3-5th!  And Land’s End is hooking it up with clothes for the conference!  I almost peed in my pants when I got the a-ok from them.  Check out my style board and help me pick.  My style is evolving right now and I need some help!

Alright folks, time to go to bed for me.  Busy weekend ahead.  My husband is taking my daugther to the Disney Princess show at our local Civic Center.  A Papa-Daughter date.  I love that man sometimes!  Me?  I will be busting my butt at our garage sale, wish me luck!  Then we will be heading to the beach on Sunday, looking forward to that.

Please, please, please take time to vote for my friend in this national con
.  She made it to the Top 10, but this round is fierce, they are neck in neck!  You can vote ten times a day till Sunday.  Thank you so much!!

Hope you have a wonderful weekend.

  1. I loved the breastfeeding article. She said some very interesting things and it was very well written! Miss P looks darling in her little outfits. ;) The Pioneer Woman’s recipes are sinfully delicious… must be all that cream and butter she always uses. You’ll figure it out! Have a great weekend!

Hi! We must travel in the same pinterest boards. I sucked it up & bought some condensed milk & made the 2nd mac n cheese recipe. Yummy but very eggy & my daughter didn’t like it. The link to the pioneer recipe took me to prudent baby. I’m still in search of a replacement for the boxes of Annie’s Mac n cheese. Those cookies are on my list to make too but I am close to swearing off all pinterest recipes with my luck lately!!

    • I just fixed the pioneer woman’s link, thank you! I just made the cookies, and honestly they taste like cardboard to me, and make me want to eat a Thin Mint…but my daughter loved them.

I bought a Hygeia this time around. LOVE IT. So much better than my old (used, so that was probably part of it) Pump In Style. Plus, its small, light and portable (I have the enjoye LBI). It was also cheaper than a PIS with a better warrenty (bought it from a dealer on ebay)

I thought you would enjoy this blog post –

    Have a great weekend!

  5. This is the best, simplest mac n’ cheese recipe I’ve come across – its super creamy with just a few ingredients. I had great results from nonfat milk, whole wheat pasta and no butter. Good luck!

  6. Ina Garten has a great Mac n cheese recipe, also Sara Snow as well.

  7. I’m perplexed by your mac-and-cheese problem! I just make a roux and stir in (regular) milk and cheese and some flavorings, like chili flakes, ground mustard, salt and pepper.

Was just thinking about you today so I thought I’d come by and “visit”!

    • Hi! I am so glad you came by for a visit! Well, that is my problem. I tried a “no-roux and no boil” recipe and it was a bomb. I will do a roux next time. Hope you are well!

I tried the make it yourself deodorant immediately after reading this. Like within 10 minutes…it is FABULOUS and actually works. And I live in AZ where it is already super hot. I hate using even the natural deodorants, mostly because if there is no aluminum, it just doesn’t work. This ROCKS!

  9. Hi! I hate “can” flavor so I’ve figured out substitutes for almost all of them! The “real” (traditional) condensed milk is 1 cup full cream milk simmered with 1 3/4 cup sugar until syrupy (LOW simmer or milk will scorch!!) It’s like making dulce de leche only you don’t cook it anywhere near as long (ie don’t caramelize). Personally, I cut back on the sugar for sweet recipes (more like 1 1/4 cups and I use a version of sucanat). For savory recipes I do more like 3/4 cup milk heated with 1/2 cup honey. I find this MORE than sweet enough and could even cut back more for DH’s taste. Love your blog, thanks! You challenge me. :)

  10. Luv Friday the 13th too! Both my children were born on Friday the 13th. And I was born on the 13th.

Someone above said it…but I’ve had good luck with Ina Garten’s mac & cheese recipe too. She’s is my go-to when I need a good recipe for entertaining. Also, I have theee best dairy- free cheese recipe that I actually like better than with cheese. But it calls for about 1 cup of Nutritional Yeast…not sure if you consume that.

    • I have one of her books at my house right now, so I will have to see if it is in there. Thank you! And how cool that you were all born on the 13th!

  11. Thank you so much for linking to me! I’ve been off of my computer and now see how many people you’ve sent my way! That is so sweet. Your blog is darling & your new ebook sounds amazing to me. How’s your email going? =)

    • Love to hear that! That is the best feeling, when you look at your analytics and see a nice track back! Um, it’s improved…I cleaned out my draft folder and made a few more folders, but I still gots lots of work to do! :)

  1. […] I did make these cookies (no sugar, no gluten) that I mentioned last week, and I did not like them.  They were not sweet enough for me and left me wanting to go hunt down a […]
