After I organized my deep freezer, I thought it might be a good idea to bunch recipes together based on what cut is nearest/easiest to pull out. So these are both recipes for flank steaks. If you wanted to, you could use a chuck roast or other type of cut.
Since I bought 1/8 of cow, all my meat is already frozen. So this time all I did was chop the veggies, add the ingredients and put them in a bag by themselves. For those of you who were worried about putting raw meat (read the comment section) in a bag with veggies, this eliminates that. On cook day, you dump in the meat first and then your bag of veggies and seasoning. Or another reader suggested bagging the meat in a small bag and then putting it in the larger bag with the veggies.
I don’t think there is any problem putting meat and veggies together because you immediately put it the freezer and when you take it out you immediately cook it. However I understand if it makes people uneasy, so do what you feel is best.

just found you through Pinterest. Love the slow cooker -freezer receipes. One question on the fajitas Do I slice up the meat before or after cooking?
P.S. I'm not a new momma but a semi retired lady and my husband is retired and does alot of the cooking because I work at night. He is going to LOVE this idea!!!
Your slow cooker freezer meals are such a great idea!
For the fajitas – what measurements do you use for the spices?
I was wondering what measurments you use too for the spices…im making these right now and dont know how much I should use…
Curious about the measurents for the spices as well.
I honestly do not know how much I use of the spices. I just dump in, whatever I feel like putting in. I promise to start measuring and keeping better track for future recipes.
I was wondering the same as above. Do you cut the steak before or after your slow cook it?
I do it after.
I haven’t read all the comments, but when I went to one of those make it and take it and cook it later places, they always had raw meat with cooked things. It was partially or frozen too. sometimes they would precook the meat slightly if it would cook a lot slower than the rest of the ingredients. They also did, as you say, put some of the ingredients in separate baggies and then put that in the larger baggie.
I’m new to freezer cooking and want to make the fajitas for a friend who just had a baby. Couple questions…
1) Do you freeze the seasonings in with the veggies or meat? or can I leave that out for her to just dump on everything on cook day?
2) Should I have her thaw everything completely before putting into the crockpot or just have her shove everything in there?
Thanks!
You could leave out the spices if you want, but they freeze fine. And that is part of the ease, you just dump it all in the slow cooker, no need to round up spices and measuring spoons. If the bag is small, I don’t thaw out at all, I just dump in. If it is large and can’t fit into my cooker frozen in a big brick, I set it out for a few minutes till I break the brick in half and get the lid on my slow cooker. Make sense?
Do you add the flank steak uncooked with the other veggies? I had no idea you could cook like that in a slowcooker! If I bought pre-seasoned meat, than I could cut the spices from the recipe correct? (Our local meat market is having a large sell on meat)
Yup, meat and veggies together raw. You can alter these any way you like!
I just discovered your blog and am so excited to check it all out!
I’m also wondering what you think of brands of slow cookers. I’m in need of a new one. I just discovered quite a few people believe that the Rival Crock Pots and other ceramic insert slow cookers have lead & cadmium in them. I’m guessing from your recent giveaway that you use the All Clad slow cooker. Does this provide an all over even heat the way ceramic slow cookers do? Have you discovered any drawbacks to using a metal slow cooker as opposed to a ceramic one?
We had this tonight and everyone gave it a thumbs up. Thanks for a nutritious meal my whole family would like me to make again.
Yay! Love to hear that!
The peanut stew is sooooo delicious!!
