Playroom Makeover Before Pictures and Update

A lot of you recently found my blog via Pinterest.  I had heard of it before all the new traffic came over, and I had heard it was addicting.  I told myself I didn’t have time for another thing to do/read online, so I forced myself to stay away, despite urging by friends.

And now, I am the one doing the urging. I am telling all my friends about it, as if it is something that is saving the world. I am totally and completely addicted to it. I love participating in it, but as someone who does freelance Marketing and PR, I also am really interested in its capacity. In less than one month, Pinterest has inspired me so much that I have gone out and bought/made/read more things than any one blog or Facebook has ever “made” me do. When I say made, I mean that same thing that makes us want things from traditional advertisements on TV and in print. It made me covet. It made want. But what I think is really interesting, is that it made me follow through.

Part of it was just timing. I was in the mood to nest, to have something to occupy my mind and take me out of my daily stresses and have something to look forward to, and of course, I love the creative process (conception/gestation/birthing) of anything.

But I would have never have been able to come up with such a great design idea for her playroom without Pinterest. Check out all my inspiration here.

So here is Penelope’s playroom before I got started.  Pre-Penelope, this room was our formal dinning room. It was only used during the holidays, if then. It was also my make shift craft room, but when Peter begrudingly allowed me to take over some of his office for my craft nook, the room really served no purpose. It is in the perfect location, the office is across one doorway and the the kitchen is across the other doorway. I can be in the kitchen and see/hear her, or in my craft nook and see/hear her.

Since Penelope was about 4 months old, I have taught Itsy Bitsy Yoga classes out of my home, to a small group of mostly friends. I needed her playroom to be clear of distractions so the tots could focus on yoga. I would move all her big toys out and only leave the bookcases to get ready for class.  But now that I am so busy with freelance work, I don’t have the time to teach yoga, I could finally fill the room up and make it really interactive.

SO… the chalkboard wall is painted.  The handmade bean bag chairs are done.

The ABC’s are up on the wall.

The Haba play tent is up.

I need to finish my rainbow canvas wall art. I so wish I could do a big version like this, but mine will be a mini version.

My parents are coming tonight with lots of goodies from IKEA to finish it up. Can’t. Freaking. Wait.

I need to go get the drip pan from Walmart for this.

Ahhhhh, I can not WAIT to show you next week!!

Do you have any playroom makeover ideas/plans brewing??

  1. I agree. Because of your blog I found pinterest and found inspiration to paint my living room and decorate it after living in this house for a year. Thank you for mentioning it! My house is becoming more homey one room at a time!

I LOVE the ABC's on the wall and the magnetic board! I also have the circle dry-erase stickers in my classroom. Love!

I did the drip pan magnetic board just last Sunday, we love it! I velcro'ed (black heavy duty stuff) it to the back door in her playroom! It is awesome! Got ours at Auto Zone on Monroe, 10 bucks!

  5. @Alyhs…I know what you mean, there is all kinds of things I want to do to my house now, but I need to reign it in for awhile after the playroom is done.
@Brooke..thank you! And this is just the before pictures, wait till next week for the big reveal of the after photos!!
@Megan…how do you like the circle dry erase boards? One of the reasons I picked that wall for the blackboard paint is so I could do my to do lists on it too, every time I washed off a circle I got a little bit of marker on the paint and it left a mark I couldn't get off.
@CourtneyBee…good to know it is at AutoZone. I hate Walmart with a passion and didn't really want to go in there. :)

  6. I cannot WAIT to see the final product!! And with Peter out of town for a bit, you can really go all out and do whatever you want ;)

  7. Oh my, I looove your letters. Can you tell me how you found them/painted them? I didn't know about this drip pan and I am going to look into it tonight. Thank you for the inspiration!!

  8. I just made a playroom in our home for my little one's, SO MUCH FUN! I want to be in that room all the time now and we totally are! It doubles as a guest bedroom with a full pull out couch. I have more to do with organizing the closet effectively but so far I did a chalboard wall, a collage wall of of family pics near and dear to our heart and Seseme St. character decals one "tacky but very fun" wall in the room. The area where the play kitchen set is located is named our little cafe' & has pics of my boys in their chef dress up clothes framed above. I just love what you have done so far with your playroom. Can't wait to see the finished product!

  9. @TheQsMom…I am gonna do a couple of tutorials on everything I did soon. :)

  10. SOOO FREAKING CUTE!! Love all the ideas. You are so creative! The ABCs are my absolute favorite. A very stylish way to display them!

I can't wait to see the finished product either! I have to say I share your sentiment exactly with Pintrest. It's how I found your blog and I'm so proud of myself today because I'm doing something I pinned…making your freezer crock pot meals! Thanks for inspiring me :)
